Robyn Silverstein
Tai Chi Chuan
|
Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese
way of exercise to achieve health and tranquility. Robyn
Silverstein is the instructor for the Tai Chi Chuan
program at Utah Karate Institute.
Tai Chi Chuan (Southern Yang Style) is a system of
activating the body for the development of physical,
emotional, and mental well-being. These exercises produce
a feeling of satisfaction and sense of calm that western
exercises do not achieve.
Modern scientific studies have determined that the
practice of Tai Chi improves balance and strength. The
continuous, relaxed, rhythmic movements combined with
controlled breathing benefits body systems. The practice
helps to quicken blood circulation while proving to
significantly lower blood pressure. The meditative qualities
benefit mental calm and piece of mind.
Robyn Silverstein studied for many years under the
direction of the famous Grand Master Choy Kam Man, in
Chinatown, San Francisco. She was the first non-Chinese
student to study with Master Choy beginning in 1966
and continued, thereafter as a private student. Robyn
has taught the Southern Praying Mantis form in Utah
since 1981.
We are glad to have Robyn instructing Tai Chi Chuan
at our school and feel that she adds a new level of
diversity to Utah Karate.
